Chain of Rocks 6k Team Feature: Running Niche

We have 10 teams signed up for the inaugural Chain of Rocks 6k on Sunday, March 27th, 2022! Each week we will feature a different team. The beauty of the St. Louis running community is there are several clubs and teams you can be a part of. We are grateful for these organization’s support in our first year event. Today we highlight Team Running Niche!

How did Team Running Niche start?

The main reason we opened our shop was to do something we really enjoy and feel passionate about, which is helping runners. While products are important we believe training is just as, if not more, important. Bob, with his competitive running and professional footwear background, has always had an interest in coaching and Jen has discovered through taking coaching training that she enjoys it as well. We always knew that a team would be a part of what we do. Team Running Niche started with a small group of marathon runners when we first opened our shop who were willing to try our Lydiard Training plans and wear our singlet in local races. It has grown to 60+ runners every training cycle.

What's the criteria for becoming a member of Team Running Niche?

The only criteria is that the runner trains with the Lydiard Method, coached by Jen and Bob at no charge, and wear our racing singlet in their races.

There is a fee for the training plans, which goes to the non-profit Lydiard Training and Academy which continues to educate about Lydiard training and build the legacy of Master Coach Arthur Lydiard.

What makes the St. Louis running community so special?

There are so many enthusiastic runners, from beginners to experienced. And the area offers many opportunities to participate from run clubs to organized races. While the people make it special, the area offers wonderful places to run like Forest Park, Tower Grove Park, The Greenways and lots of great trails.

Anything you want to add or highlight about your group to our followers on social media?

Besides a love of running and a desire to improve, the common connection of members of Team Running Niche is that they all follow the same Lydiard Training Method, tailored to them. Whether it's a 2:19 or a 5:50 marathoner the principles are the same. And covers from a mile to marathon training plans.
